Deepika Padukone was asked for her thoughts on the recent issues that have involved her. The performer claimed that rather than confront them, she prefers to keep herself simply busy at work.

Actor Deepika Padukone has consistently found herself in the middle of some political storm, but the star says she is pretty much unfazed by it. The actor, who last featured in the blockbuster Pathaan, opened up about the controversies surrounding her over the years.

Padukone first received political backlash for her film Padmavat, in which she essayed the role of Queen Padmavati. Certain scenes of the film were changed and the film’s name altered to Padmavat from Padmavati after a fringe outfit claimed it disrespected the sentiments of Rajputs.

She also received a backlash over attending a students’ protest against the amended Citizenship Act in Jawaharlal Nehru University in January 2020 when she visited the campus. While the actor didn’t say anything at the protest, she attracted both attention and trolling with the gesture.

Earlier this year, she was caught in a storm yet again over her song “Besharam Rang”  from Shah Rukh Khan-led Pathaan, in which she featured in a saffron-coloured bikini in one sequence. BJP ministers and right-wing outfits claimed the track insulted the saffron colour “which is holy for the Hindu community.”

Deepika, who is featured in the Time cover, opened up about how she chose to stay busy with her work than open up on these controversies. When asked about the constant political backlash against her, Deepika answered after a long pause, “I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something about it. But the truth is, I don’t feel anything about it.”

Deepika, meanwhile, is on a career high after featuring in the blockbuster Pathaan. The actioner, which featured her as a Pakistani agent, smashed all box office records by earning more than Rs 542 cr all India nett collections. Deepika will be next seen in two big releases– the sci-fi actioner Project K, co-starring Prabhas and Pathaan director Siddharth Anand’s next, Fighter, which also stars Hrithik Roshan. Both the films are scheduled to be released next year in January.

Before that, Deepika will also be seen in a special appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s next, Jawan. Jawan reportedly features Shah Rukh in a double role and will feature Deepika as the wife of one of the characters.
