How should airlines react to the passenger who assaulted the IndiGo pilot?

SHARE

IndiGo has began the process of putting on the no-fly list a passenger who attacked a pilot after the aircraft was delayed for many hours amid severe fog in Delhi on Sunday.

The airline declared the passenger “unruly,” and any further action will be regulated by the Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) on “Handling of unruly passengers” published by the aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The CAR establishes the protocol that airlines must take in response to disruptive passenger conduct of varied degrees at the time of the occurrence and thereafter.

Over the last several months, the DGCA has urged airlines to proactively report incidences of disruptive passenger conduct on board aircraft, which the regulator believes might jeopardise operational safety.
