One of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects has reached a key milestone. The shooting of Part 1 of Ramayana, directed by the acclaimed Nitesh Tiwari, has officially wrapped. The emotional moment was marked by warm hugs, applause, and heartfelt speeches by the cast and crew—including Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram, and Ravi Dubey, cast as Lakshman. With a massive budget, groundbreaking technology, and mythological gravitas, Ramayana is shaping up to be a landmark cinematic experience.

The Story Behind the Epic

Ramayana is based on the ancient Indian epic that chronicles the journey of Lord Ram as he battles evil, upholds dharma, and exemplifies ideal virtues. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal and Chhichhore, this cinematic retelling aims to blend mythology with cutting-edge VFX and layered storytelling.

The film is expected to be released in three parts, with Part 1 focusing on the early years of Ram and Sita’s life—culminating in Sita’s abduction by Ravana.

Ranbir Kapoor: Lord Ram with Grace and Grit

The spotlight remains on Ranbir Kapoor, who has undergone a complete transformation to embody Lord Ram. From physical training and Vedic studies to adapting a serene yet powerful screen presence, Kapoor has taken on this role with utmost seriousness.

Photos and behind-the-scenes videos show him in saffron robes, wielding a bow, and maintaining a meditative aura even between takes. Tiwari reportedly kept a spiritual consultant on set to ensure authenticity in Kapoor’s gestures, postures, and dialogue delivery.

Fans are already calling it “the role of a lifetime” for Ranbir, who was last seen in the action fantasy Animal Park.

Ravi Dubey as Lakshman: From TV Star to Silver Screen Warrior

Television heartthrob Ravi Dubey has made a grand leap to the big screen as Lakshman, Ram’s fiercely loyal brother. Known for his intense eyes and articulate voice, Dubey’s casting has been met with applause.

He reportedly trained in sword fighting and archery for over five months to prepare for physically demanding scenes. In a recent interview, Dubey shared:

“This role is not just performance—it’s devotion. Playing Lakshman has changed how I see duty, family, and inner strength.”

The Emotional Wrap Moment

On July 1, Nitesh Tiwari shared a video clip of the final shot wrapping up. The scene featured Kapoor and Dubey hugging, followed by the cast and crew breaking into applause. The director addressed the team with an emotional speech, thanking them for their dedication:

“What we have done here is not just filmmaking—it’s spiritual work. We’re not telling a story, we’re honoring our heritage.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, with fans hailing the dedication and anticipation for the first glimpse.

Cast and Characters: Who Plays Whom?

Though the full cast list hasn’t been officially revealed, insiders confirm:

  • Ranbir Kapoor as Ram
  • Ravi Dubey as Lakshman
  • Sai Pallavi as Sita
  • Yash (from KGF) rumored to play Ravana
  • Sunny Deol rumored as Hanuman (unconfirmed)

The filmmakers have intentionally kept much of the casting under wraps to build suspense and avoid leaks.

Budget & Production Scale

With an estimated budget of ₹600 crore, Ramayana is among the most expensive Indian films ever made. It uses a combination of live-action, motion capture, and extensive VFX.

Visual effects are being handled by DNEG, the Oscar-winning studio behind Inception, Tenet, and Dune. The film’s production spanned two years, with the shooting primarily done in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and virtual sets crafted with real-time rendering.

Music and Spiritual Guidance

Music is being composed by A.R. Rahman, who has reportedly created an epic score with Sanskrit verses, traditional instruments, and grand orchestral arrangements. Devotional tracks sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh are expected to be part of the first release.

A dedicated scripture advisory team was also on board to ensure religious accuracy and respect, a critical factor given the story’s sacred status in Indian culture.

When Will Part 1 Release?

The makers have officially announced that Ramayana: Part 1 will release on Diwali 2025, making it a grand festive spectacle. The first look poster and teaser are expected to drop on July 3, 2025, which marks the official commencement of the film’s marketing campaign.
