After the Pune concert, AR Rahman thanked the city’s residents “for all the love and euphoria.”

Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman and his thousands of fans were left perplexed on Sunday when an officer attached to the Pune police interrupted the maestro while he was performing at Raja Bahadur Mills in the Maharashtra city and instructed him to wind up the concert immediately.

In a video of the incident that has since gone viral on social media platforms, a police officer can be seen walking on the stage and asking Rahman, other artistes and organisers to stop the music show.

According to news agency PTI, the officer directed the organisers to end the show as it went on after the 10 pm deadline. “As the deadline of 10 pm had passed, we asked him (Rahman) and other artistes to stop the show. They followed the instructions and stopped the show,” PTI quoted Bundgarden police station inspector Santosh Patil, who was seen in the video asking Rahman and other artistes playing music to stop by pointing at his watch, as saying.

The Supreme Court had in 2005 banned the use of loudspeakers and music systems in public places between 10 pm and 6 am, except in cases of public emergency, citing the serious effects of noise pollution on the health of local residents.

No case has been registered in connection with the concert till now, the news agency’s report mentioned further.

“Was such a roller coaster concert! No wonder Pune is home to so much classical music! We shall be back soon to sing with you all again,” he added.
